Hi All

This is my first Blu-ray review( Not the movie) here and I will start with "Collateral " which was released in Blu-ray format.

Image

This is one of my favorite movie directed by Michael Mann and ultimate credit goes to Tom Cruise for acting on it and make it director's thought realistic. Paramount’s Blu-ray presents the film in widescreen (2.35:1) and it looks amazing. Director told in an interview that most of the film was shot digitally . As a result of digitally shot, the image was a little jarring. Camera movements seemed shakier. This is no longer an issue. While we as an audience have become more accustomed to seeing digital video like Bourne series and lot of handycam taken movie :) ,

Collateral is one of the boldest and strongest works of Mann’s movie career and there are lot of hits and butts.

The picture quality is good in places but can also be grainy in others. This was because of the camera that was used to give it a more documentary & realistic look to it, the grain actually helps this in terms of atmosphere. The soundtrack is 5.1 DTS-HD, and it’s also excellent. which mixed with movie presentation. The extra features on the disc are nothing special, all features on the BD (apart from 2 trailers from the film) are from the 2 disc special edition DVD in standard definition.
On to the film itself, definetly the darkest character that Tom Cruise has played before and he pulls this off very well, also an excellent performance from Jamie Foxx. All in all with the theme that the director has decided to go in, the film has tons of atmosphere in places and you will be on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Navigating the disc is breeze. The pop-up menus are easy to read and don’t require the loading of addition pages. The one sequence/loop in the background simply repeats as you make your choices

The Making of Collateral almost running to more than 40 minutes - Like the commentary track, this is a well-explained, in depth featurette behind the story, the characters, and how they went about intricately developing both.

Overall I will tell the transfer is ok but not upto our expectations. :) The best in transfer like this kind of movie i can quote is Bourne ultimatum which is also digitally shot and have jarring effect almost all over the film.. So I will rate the film to 8/10 to all combinations.
